On 5-6 March 2025, Lviv Oblast will host a monitoring visit by the National Council on Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the visit is to assess the implementation of HIV and TB programmes, analyse the effectiveness of cooperation between the government and civil society sectors, and monitor the activities of the Lviv Oblast Council in coordinating the response to the spread of these diseases.
The composition of the National Council's monitoring delegation:
▪️ Ihor Volodymyrovych Kuzin - Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine, Head of the Committee on Regional Policy and the Secretariat of the National Council, Head of the Monitoring Group.
▪️ Sherembey Dmytro Olehovych - Chairman of the Coordination Council of CO ‘100% Life’, Deputy Chairman of the National Council.
▪️ Kravets Liubov Petrivna - project coordinator, representative of the National Council Secretariat, secretary of the National Council Committee on Regional Policy.
▪️ Terleyeva Yana Serhiivna - Head of the Department of Tuberculosis Management and Control at the Public Health Centre of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Deputy Head of the Committee on Regional Policy of the National Council.
▪️ Pavlenko Olena Mykolaivna is a coordinator of medical programmes at the ICF ‘Organisation for Optimal Technology in Healthcare’ (PATH), member of the Oversight Commission of the National Council.
▪️ Salabai Nataliia Volodymyrivna is an adviser on equality and rights for all at the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Ukraine, member of the Oversight Commission of the National Council.
Meeting at the Lung Health Centre:
As part of the visit, representatives of the National Council, in particular Lyubov Kravets and Yana Terleyeva, met with the management and medical staff of the Lung Health Centre. The meeting was also attended by Volodymyr Chornyi, Deputy Director of the Health Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
Liubomyr Rak, Director General of the Lung's Health Centre, presented the results of the institution's work, outlined key challenges and prospects for further development.
First of all, they discussed the following:
- The state of organisation and provision of TB medical care to the population of the region, including IDPs.
- The patient's route from detection to completion of treatment.
- Interaction with Global Fund projects and other partners.
Representatives of the National Council highly appreciated the efforts of the Lung Health Centre team in the fight against tuberculosis, emphasised the important aspects of interaction with primary care and communities, and stressed the need to strengthen coordination between state, regional and international structures.
The visit provided an opportunity to assess the current state of HIV and TB programmes in Lviv Oblast, identify priorities for improvement and strengthen partnerships between the public and non-governmental sectors in addressing these challenges.
Together, with joint efforts, we are moving forward to fight tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS as effectively as possible!
