Type of event: training

The training is part of the project ‘Supporting TB Control Efforts in Ukraine’.

Place of the training: Ukraine, 81150, Lviv region, Lviv district, Vynnychky village, Medychna str. 2 

Target audience: Nurses in the specialities ‘Nursing’, ‘Family Medicine’, ‘Healthcare Organisation and Management’, ‘Paediatrics’, ‘Nursing in Paediatrics’

Purpose of the event:

Improving the knowledge and skills of primary care nurses on modern approaches to managing cases of drug-susceptible (DS-TB) and drug-resistant (DR-TB) tuberculosis to improve the detection, diagnosis, effectiveness of treatment and prevention of these cases, diagnosis and treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). 

List of competences to be acquired or improved (learning outcomes):

  • Epidemiological situation with TB in the world and in Ukraine; Groups at risk of TB;

  • Organisation of sputum collection;

  • Diagnosis and treatment of LTBI;

  • Active detection of TB patients;

  • Modern methods of diagnosing DS-TB and DR-TB;

  • Calendar for monitoring the effectiveness of treatment and identifying adverse reactions;

  • Modern models of treatment of TB patients;

  • Maintaining records of services provided by DOTs to patients with DS-TB and DR-TB;

  • Methods of diagnosing HIV infection and peculiarities of HIV detection in TB patients;

  • Types of infection control.

Description of the event structure:

  • Event format: offline;
  • Duration of the event: three training days;
  • The structure of the event:
    - The theoretical part is presented in the form of reports/presentations by trainers and demonstrations of skills;
    - The practical part will include practicing practical skills on specific topics and practical exercises on TB patient pathways;
  • 10 hours of lecture;
  • 8 hours of practical training;
  • 2 hours of knowledge assessment.

The total amount of study load: 20 hours.

Forms of organising and holding the event: Implementation of the planned programme, use of active learning methods, involvement of participants in discussions and practical exercises, evaluation of the results achieved (testing, surveys).

Methods of organising and conducting the event: Lectures and presentations, group discussions and debates, practical tasks and cases, skills training, brainstorming, demonstrations and examples, group work, dynamic exercises, role-playing.

Logistical support for the educational event: Multimedia equipment and flip charts are used to demonstrate presentations. For the practical part, the following equipment is used: illustrative materials for practical exercises, respirators.

Forms of final control: Solving 15 test tasks that cover the entire scope of the event material with one correct answer. To successfully pass the control assessment and receive the relevant certificate, the trainee physician must correctly answer at least 70% of the test tasks.
